That’s Not Pigeon Shit

You’ll see in this mendacious ad produced for Capital Play, one of the New York racing franchise bidders and the group that pushed the story of the $1.6 billion IRS claims against NYRA. It’s Capital Play’s lobbying strategy:

I’m not such a naïf to be shocked that an organization bidding for a franchise worth billions would wallow in muck, but I am appalled that one would be so desperate it would throw away all credibility by resorting to such brazen untruths and hoary clichés its advertising is almost a parody of a smear campaign.
[Hat tip to Bennett Liebman’s Racing and Gaming Today.]
More: The Thoroughbred Times reports on the 30-second spot and where it’s airing around the state, mentions that a franchise announcement could come before Thanksgiving.

Thanks Capital Play, even as a non race-goer, I’m now aware, of what a corrupt & inefficient group, Spitzer’s, nomination NYRA is. Hell, any funding towards NY education has my vote. If the we had received this money sooner, I wouldn’t now be afraid to walk around some parts of South Ozone Park, at night, my local area.
After studying this racing franchise case for a while, I am convinced, the many allegations against present crowd, NYRA, are definitely true
& must be exposed, before a wider non-racing, sector of especially, local constituents, before they bribe, & extort their way into another 30 yrs of administrative criminality.

Great post, Jessica. Oh, where to begin?
Since when does the racing franchise have a thing to do with education in this state?
Had the state not held up approval for construction of the VLT section of Aqueduct, those decrepit areas would be full of profit-making machines; unfortunately, Albany thought it wiser to play politics than to generate income for the people of the state.
Mr. Richards, if you are upset with anyone, direct your anger to the elected officials who have chosen to cavalierly hijack a process with so much at stake.

That ad might seem over the top, but isn’t it correct? NYRA is running these tracks into the ground – if most people performed like NYRA has they wouldn’t still have their jobs. Its like a bombed out stadium. A buddy who lived in Australia for a semester said the tracks there are awesome, wouldn’t it be nice if people said that about our tracks here in New York?!?

There are only two individuals responsible for the chaos in New York racing. George and Elliot.

These comments above (not the Ranger fan of course) show how gullible people are to bullshit like this ad. Which is why most political races are determined these days by how much money the candidate has to bamboozle the public with.

Regardless of what the video. NYRA must be taken out of the equation. They have driven the francise into the ground. Another entity will be better. I don’t understand the arguments to keep the rotter NYRA in place.
