Wayne Smith uttered:

“In a way it’s good because a lot more of the Europeans will come up and race on the synthetic because the turf horses handle it well, but for the dirt horses coming up from America, they might just stay away.”
______

I concur.
I like to look on the positive side of this. The top American horses will stay state side and run in what were prestigious races like The Donn Handicap, The Santa Anita Handicap and The Pimlico Special.

In short. American racing will keep getting stronger in the coming years as long as synthetics plays “just like grass”.

Who on this side of the Atlantic would want to take on the Europeans playing by their rules and possibly compromising a long American campaign?

The installation of Tapeta looks like a costly mistake by the designers of Meydan racecourse and another superb job of salesmanship by The Mad Genius.
