#delmarI met Marc Subia today and he told me the story of his amazing autograph jacket. "It's my most prized possession." Marc started coming to Del Mar with his dad in the 1970s. It's his home track. And he's been collecting jockey autographs for decades ...Grand Jete keeping an eye on me as I take a picture of Rushing Fall's #BC17 garland. #thoroughbred #horseracing #delmarAnother #treasurefromthearchive — this UPI collage for Secretariat vs. Sham. #inthearchives #thoroughbred #horseracingThanks, Arlington. Headlines & Commentary: March 24

– The new rules for election to the Racing Hall of Fame are an improvement, writes Bill Finley. But they don’t quite make things right: “The Hall of Fame has taken an important step in the right direction. It’s unlikely that we will ever again see a mediocrity inducted into what should be racing’s most elite club. But more needs to be done. There are horses like Mom’s Command who have been unfairly omitted. Only some common sense rule changes will do them justice.” (ESPN)
Jockey Rafael Bejarano will return to Kentucky on Saturday to ride Andromeda’s Hero in the Lane’s End Stakes. Bejarano was one of the leading riders at Churchill Downs last fall until he was barred from the track, with 13 others, for participating in the jockeys’ strike over insurance issues. (CJ)
Horse of the Year Ghostzapper worked five furlongs in :59.6 at Palm Meadows yesterday. He’s likely to make his 2005 debut in the Oaklawn Handicap April 9. (NYDN)

Sponsor P Val

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela is looking for an advertising sponsor. For $15,000+, he’s offering ad space on his pants and collar. I’m thinking about this for Railbird — I bet my site traffic would really increase with the URL splashed across P Val. As Valenzuela says, “My sport is nationally televised and I have received quite a bit of media coverage lately.” Indeed, he has. Unfortunately, much of it has been for some personal issues, not his great riding. (eBay)

It’s Not Intuition

It’s “cosmic criteria.” Vic Zast wields a hatpin — oops, sorry, that’s what women use to pick horses — a crystal ball to divine this year’s Kentucky Derby winner. (MSNBC)
